Hello, I'm Kate, a HCPC registered physiotherapist with a diverse background in sports science and injury rehabilitation. My journey began with a BSc in Equine and Human Sports Science, which led me to pursue a BSc in Sports Rehabilitation due to my strong interest in physical dysfunction. Building on this foundation, I furthered my education with an MSc in Physiotherapy at Curtin University in Western Australia, where I lived for nearly three years.
In 2012, I established New Wave Physio, a successful private practice in the North West UK, where I spent 11 years providing exceptional care to my clients and growing a team of therapists. During this time, I developed a particular interest in spine pain and obtained certifications with Manual Concepts spine pain and treatment techniques, while working closely with orthopaedic spine surgeons. More recently, I have integrated cognitive functional therapy into my practice to help clients better understand their pain and offer personalised treatment plans.
Over this time, I developed a love for Pilates and qualified as an APPI Pilates Matwork Instructor. I completed further CPD training in Pilates for osteoporosis and scoliosis, as well as completing reformer training with the APPI and Pilates equipment safety training with MBodies.
After selling the practice in 2023, I recently relocated to York in the UK, where I now reside with my husband and two girls. I am thrilled to bring my expertise and compassionate approach to the people of York and North Yorkshire.

Our physiotherapy journey begins with a personalised assessment, during which we take the time to listen to your story. We then provide education and advice on the potential cause of your pain, and often proceed with treatment. We assist with a wide range of physical conditions and injuries, focusing primarily on restoring movement and function, reducing pain, and preventing further injury.
Common injuries we treat: sports injuries, joint sprains and strains, back, neck and hip pain, tendonitis, muscle tears, post-surgical rehabilitation, work-related injuries, repetitive strain injuries and much more.
Our clinical Pilates is based on the APPI method which is a form of Pilates that has been adapted specifically for use in a clinical setting. It focuses on rehabilitation and injury prevention, incorporating principles of physiotherapy and evidence-based practice.
Clinical APPI Pilates exercises are designed to improve core strength, flexibility, posture, and overall body awareness, while also addressing specific musculoskeletal issues and promoting safe movement patterns. This approach is often used by physiotherapists and healthcare professionals to help individuals recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and improve their overall physical well-being.
Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT) is indeed a modern and highly effective approach to treating chronic pain. It aims to address the complex interaction between physical, cognitive, and emotional factors that contribute to persistent pain. CFT takes into consideration the numerous biopsychosocial factors that can affect a person's pain experience. The goal of CFT is to shift an individual's mindset from one of fear and avoidance to one of empowerment and active self-management. As a physiotherapist, we can assist you in exploring the various causes of your pain and provide detailed strategies to manage it.
CFT is very effective when people are feeling hopeless due to conditions such as chronic low back pain, neck pain, and other musculoskeletal disorders. If you have a specific condition in mind, we can provide more tailored information about how CFT may be beneficial.
